In the preface of the novel, Valentino Achak Deng describes how the writing of What is the What was a collaboration between himself and the author. Valentino told Dave Eggers as much as he could remember, and Eggers "created this work of art" (xiv).
Valentino's strength is telling stories out loud, while Eggers makes a living writing stories down.
How do you prefer to tell stores -- with spoken words, or with written words? Do you think one format is better than the other, and why?

i thought the book was lovely and i was amazed how valentino and his people walk from different countries to find peace
In my preference, I prefer to write stories instead of reading them to people.
I personally prefer to tell stories. I think that if you tell stories people can understand better. You can show a lot more emotion and hand gestures that shows the listener how you are feeling. Telling stories is definetly better.
I prefer to tell stories. The reason I choose to tell stoires over writing them is because I give more specific details when i speak. When I write them, it is sometimes not everything that should be told.
I prefer to tell stories with spoken words because I like to give facial expressions to how I was feeling when situation took place. is one way better than the other? I don't think so.
I think telling stories is better because you can show your expressions and I always tend to remember more when I am saying it out loud.
It depends on the situation of the story. If its personal then I would prefer it to be anonymous if writing it, or if I am telling it then I will tell someone that is close with me. Also, some things are hard to make out in sentences.
I personally did not like or care for the book. I think it was garbage. I really do not care for this guys life I have my own problems to worry about so as I said i dont care for this book at all. I care for myself my family and money.
I think telling stories in spoken words is better because you get more details and u can hear how things are being reacted.
I really rather prefer to write my stories with words. I think it is better that way because you can really get into great detail and sometimes you really can't explain things with words so you can try to write them out on paper and so you can explain yourself. HI MEG!
I think that wriiten words are better than spoken words becuase, written words get deep into your minds as your reading and make you feel and think more....

I would rather tell stories out loud. I say this because it's better to speak from the mind instead of writing it on paper. If you write on paper you have to have an organized way to put it down when it comes from your mind you can just say it. And Dave Eggers is an excellent author to be able to get told such a log story and get everything down.
