Response Question: "The erased man" (256-367)

In Chapter 17, Valentino sees a white person for the first time. He and other boys in the camp have very specific reactions and ideas about this mysterious human. What are some of the things that are said? Why do you think the refugees put such faith in the presence of a white person?

When Valentino saw the "erased" the man an for the first time, he thought that the man did something wrong in his village that's why his skin has no color. Some other things that were said about the man was that he was working for the government in a secert mission or that he was there to kill them. They also said that the khawaja will run if away and will be scared off. another theory that was past around was that he was god.
The refugees put so much faith in the white people because they believd that they were there to teach them about the kingdon of God. The refugees are also amased at the white pepole because of the belief that they will help the Sudaneese because of their thought that the white people have the bigggest and strongest army.

When Valentino and the other boys saw the white man for the first time they said that the man did something wrong and that's why he has no color that's why he's white. They also said that he was some kind of god and that he could help them because he's just like God.Also Valentino called him the inside out man because his skin was white. But at first they were scared of him because they thought he was going to kill them but some realized he was there to help.I think they put so much presence into a white person because they belive that all white people are like god because god's white. And they compare the white man to Adam and Eve and Moses and all the people with the highest power. They feel white people are the most powerful that they can help them in every way possible.

Some of the things that are said, when Valentino and the other boys see a white man or "the erased man" for te first time, they all immediately assume that he must of did something wrong in his village, due to the fact of having no color on his skin. To add, they thought that he was secretly working for the government, or he was there to kill them, due to the previous history of slavery in Africa a long time ago. Moreover, Valentino called the white man, the inside out man.( thats such a typical phrase from a young boy .)I think that the refugees put such faith in the presence of the white person, because they all believed that the white man had the most powerful army in the world. Also, there was so much faith in the presence of the white man because they thought they were there to teach them the lessons / about God / Christianity. Either or it seemed that all of them got the worng interpretation of the white man.

when the lost boys and valentino saw the white(erased) man they thought negetive thoughts. They thought that he was working for the government and that he there to inspect the territory, decide on how many people and weapons he needed to kill them, come back at night and massacre them. They also though that he did something bad in his village and that why his skin was inside out.But later on valentinolearns, that he is from abroad and is there to help them. Funny, he turns from a killer,to a cursed man, to their savior.

Some of the people thought that the “erased man” had done something bad in order to lose his color. Many others thought that he was a God. Because so many of them had never seen a white man before anything or anyone that was new gave them a new sense of hope. They figured nothing good had happened before, but that was before the white man. So they figured that he being a God could definitely bring about good changes.

The "Erased Man" was not seen by many boys no one have not had a missionary in wich village they came from and as kids its only natural to be curios to a different looking person and trying to figure out who he is at first the thought meybe he was here on a mission to count all the people and gather weapons to kill them all but that was scratched by the fact that he was friendly with the elders then they thought he was there savior but that was diminished by the fact that he was doing ordinary stuff that did not seem god like then finally Achack did what he should had done in the first place ask an elder who know who he is.And the part about why they thought he was a god to help them because the fact that kids wanted hope that they would return to there families and there villages and that everthing was gonna be alright if i was put in the se=ame situation as Achak I would feel the same way.
