Response Question: Valentino's Troubles (137-256)
In Chapter 15, Achor Achor finally finds Valentino in the apartment, but their troubles do not end there. What -- or who -- make it hard for these two refugees to deal with the robbery and Valentino's injuries? How does Valentino respond the unfair treatment he receives, and all of the bad things that have happened to him? How would you react if you had so many bad things happen to you? Where would you find the strength to continue?

I think that it is the officals fault that made Valentino's situation hard to deal with. I don't think that it's because of their race but because it happened a while ago. I also blame the way that the law was shaped and the process that a crime has to be anayzed. I was disturbed when the later officer said that the robbery was more of a complant. When Valentino arrived at the hospital, i don't think that there was any problem with the fact that he couldn't pay. At every hospital, when you first arrive, there will be a waiting period. Julian was probably right that the staff was short handed. I think that Valentino resolved this situation in a way that eveyone, including I, would. I would, also, eventually start kicking the floor or door, too. He said that he has brought bad luck where ever he goes and was a burden to everyone he meets, but i don't think thats true. I belive that some bad experiences will, further along the way, help us achive many bigger problems and will only make us stronger. At a time like this, Valentino thought of all the other bad experiences that he endured to get through tunnel, but i have a different approach. I would rather look at the positive side and remember the other experienes that are more pleasureable.
For me, I think the officer makes it hard for Valentino and Achor Achor to deal with the robbery and his injuries. First of all, when Achor Achor called the police they said a car was on the way and it took like a hour for the police to arrive. And when the police finally arrived the lady didn't even really write any thing done about his robbery and she called it a complaint which I think was horrible because he didn't just get robbed he also got assulted. Some other people that make it hard for him to deal with his injuries is the people at the hospital. When he went in Julian said the wait would only be a few minutes when he was actually there for at least 6 hours. He responds by calling Ded and talking to her and getting her to talk to Julian. And also by thinking that the United States is unfair and saying that he wanted to go home to his country. If i was treated like this I would be very upset and mad.
Eventhough, I am so relieved that somebody "Achor Achor" finally found Valentino, but the drama drama/commotion didn't seem to end their. Basically in a situation of being let alone robbed or seriously injurred, the first thing you immediately do is dial 911 to get in contact with the police. But it takes forever for the police to arrived, and yet when they do they're asking to many queations, being nerve racking, which is because i think it was a race issue but, anyway it was predominately the officers fault for making their sitaution difficult, because they didn't take into consideration, that they were already under the pressure of being robbed, and Valentino was injured and in pain. Then more drama arrives at the hospital with once again people wanting to assist people on their spare time. Personally if I was in that situation, I would have been highly upset, and just to let you now it probably wouldn't be a pretty night for the police & hospital, but that's just me. But i give Valentino his props b/c he handled himself very well.
